// A very Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! // A very Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! 🍁🍠🌰🍽 Living in a foreign country means I get to share these traditions with people from a variety of other cultures, and although that can put enormous work and pressure on the Americans in the group, it’s become one of my favorite things about this holiday. Last year I shared Thanksgiving with Aussie, Irish, and French friends, and this year it was French and Colombian. The sentiment of giving thanks for what we have is something we can all get behind and something that is easy, puts priorities quickly into perspective, and generates more to be grateful for. {My secret favorite thing about the whole day is asking people to share a couple of things they’re thankful for. This opens people up to share sentiments that are not always spoken of freely.} To those who don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you’ll find yourself a North American friend (Canadians celebrate too although I’m not familiar with their traditions) who will share this special day with you. 🧡💛 Many thanks for being here and part of the #fallingoffbicycles community. #fob_bicycle💚🚲 #fob_julia 📸: @makeupbyjoleen
// As I mentioned the other day, several of Paris’s monuments are covered to some extent, being cleaned or painted, or of course in the case of Notre Dame Cathedral undergoing massive structural work. Some days I just swipe through old photos of lovely Notre Dame to reminisce about days like this one when I was riding around and photographing the Cathedral from every angle with my favorite type of prop. 🚲🍁 Have you seen Notre Dame before or after its fire? #notredamedeparis
// Who’s in for a weekend morning croissant with // Who’s in for a weekend morning croissant with a view? 🥐 Fun fact: if you hold your croissant in just the right spot you’ll be able to cover some of the unsightly construction work being done right now. 🚧 If it’s any consolation for all of you who have written me and told me about your canceled plans to visit Paris this year, the Eiffel Tower is largely covered and of course Notre Dame has a massive crane next to it for the foreseeable future. Hopefully they’ll both be closer to being done when you all get to return.

// May I present to you one of Paris’s prettiest // May I present to you one of Paris’s prettiest fall walls... 😍🍁🍁🍁 So glad I caught it a couple weeks ago in its prime. For my fellow Marais-lovers, especially my fellow wanderers, this is in the heart of the best areas to stroll. Preferably on a Sunday. And if you choose to explore by bike as I often do, Sunday mornings mean nearly empty streets. Parisians are very late risers on Sundays. #fob_bicycle💚🚲
// Where were you 5 years ago when you heard that // Where were you 5 years ago when you heard that Paris was under attack? A few days earlier I had left France and moved back to the Netherlands. I was at a party that night and had left my phone in the car. I came out to dozens of messages asking me if I was okay. I had no idea what people were talking about. As we drove home, I tried to make out what I could of the news in Dutch, to little avail. Once we got home, I was the one texting and calling all my friends in Paris to check on their safety. For the next few days, I was glued to the tv trying to make sense of it. The shootings had happened in an old neighborhood of mine, at a restaurant I had frequented, at a café where I had once had tea. It was all so close to home. 🖤 I had never been so happy to be in and spending the foreseeable future in what felt like the most remote location in Europe.

It’s hard to beat a beautiful door and a pretty flower display, right? 🍂🍂 I took this one on my way downhill from Montmartre last year. As I’ve told you before, the trek up is brutal. The way down is... 😳 ! It can be like the down ramp on a roller coaster in parts! 😂 And if your map takes you down streets like rue des Martyrs you better hope all those pedestrians clear a path for you! And quickly! 😂🤪 🚴🏼‍♀️💨💨#fob_bicycle💚🚲

Connaître Julia

• I can’t live without music, specifically the Beatles and Classic Rock.

• I have always loved houses and decorating them. When I was little, I wanted to be an interior decorator when I grew up.

• If I didn’t do what I do, I would be studying people’s creative processes.

• I am an insatiable student of all things relating to the Law of Attraction and metaphysics.

• The two books that most changed my life are The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle.

• I am an HSP with many HSP friends.

• I am passionate about animal rights and plant-based living.

• I have always enjoyed studying languages. I speak English and French fluently and have studied Dutch and Italian. Spanish is next.

• I have always loved hotels. My parents have been known to select our family vacation hotels based on whether or not I would approve!

• In France, my drink of choice is either Kir or champagne. Back home in the U.S., I usually opt for a G&T.
